#Fitness: The Burpee, the most hated exercise that is GOOD for you

The first time I saw a burpee I thought, that looks easy. Eight reps later, I collapse on the ground balled up in a heap breathing heavily like I just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Burpees look easy enough but for some reason it is the most exhausting exercise you can do with what seems like “little effort”. However, that “little effort” is done with expenditure of a great amount of energy and hence calories. Check out the Burpee instruction on bodybuilding.com: Burpee Instructional Video

Burpee is a full body workout. It is high intensity cardio (HIIT) that also provided strength training. It increases your agility, strength and coordination. You burn more calories with burpees that doing moderate exercises. That is because of the large number of muscles you use when you perform a burpee. Doing this exercise will result in weight loss if combined with a calorie deficit, as it It helps speed up your metabolism.

In addition to the cardio effects, you also gain strength in the muscles in your chest, arms, glutes, quads, abs and hamstrings. For example, the squats in a burpee builds muscular bulk and strength for the legs. Burpees provide great fitness value for your money because it requires no equipment and can be done at home or away from home as long as you have room. If you travel alot a jump rope and burpees would be all you need if your travel accommodation does not give you access to a gym. My goal is to able to do 4 sets of 25-30 burpees non-stop. I would recommend you start a burpee challenge: 50/day. Try it and let me know how it goes. I bet you will tell me, it is one of the hardest things you have ever done. Happy Burpee.
